CALL FOR WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS
ASF-UK’s Change by Design programme and Development Action Group are launching a new call for a multidisciplinary group of volunteers to address some of the challenges and constraints facing low-income communities in Cape Town. Building on DAG’s long-term experience in citizen mobilisation, capacity building and advocacy, and on the outcomes of previous CbD initiatives in 2015 and 2017, the workshop will explore a range of sites in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, dealing with inadequate housing conditions, homelessness, and the risk of displacement. The aim is to co-design a set of rental housing typologies which can be adopted by Khayelitsha’s small-scale developers and self-builders, in order to challenge uneven access to housing and rights in the city. Over two weeks, we will work closely with DAG and local developers, adapting the Change by Design methodology to test how participatory design can support collective capacity building, and contribute to realising DAG’s wider vision of vibrant, equitable, inclusive and spatially integrated human settlements in Cape Town.
