On 23 June,2018 ASF-UK joined TELCO and Redbridge Citizens and London CLT at the Salvation Army in Ilford for an event as part of the London Festival of Architecture, looking at how to deliver affordable and secure housing for communities in east London.
The day began with the launch of Redbridge Citizens brief for Community Land Trust homes in Ilford which was produced with support from ASF-UK. The brief, presented to Redbridge Councillors Helen Coomb and Robert Littlewood, marks a milestone for the Redbridge Citizens Housing Team in their campaign for CLT homes in the borough and will help strengthen their case for genuinely affordable, secure homes as they project progresses.
During the second session ASF-UK facilitated a workshop with members of Redbridge Citizens and built environment professionals from across London. Participants shared knowledge and experiences from their different backgrounds and explored tools for widening participation, with the aim of fostering a more inclusive development process as the project progresses through planning and onto delivery over the coming year. This involved mapping the various actors involved in delivering CLT homes in Redbridge, their particular interests and potential conflicts to be resolved. After a site visit to the proposed Clements Road site in Ilford town centre, the groups made proposals for how to increase participation and deliver the design principles set out in the newly launched brief for the site.
As well as celebrating the achievements of the campaign for CLT homes in east London, the event was an opportunity to identify what is needed to take the campaign forward over the coming year. ASF-UK would like to thank TELCO, Reddbridge Citizens and London CLT for their support in making the event such a success and we look forward to building on our partnerships together. We would also like to thank the ASF-UK participants for bringing their enthusiasm and insight on the day and we look forward to working with some of you again soon.
